To put it simply, a still life is an artwork that shows a bunch of stuff. The "stuff" can be anything. Lots of times it's fruit and flowers, but it can also be umbrellas, magazines, drinking glasses, bubble gum wrappers, cell phones, pizza boxes, computer parts, and.... well, the list goes on and on. Here, you can make your own still life, and change it again and again, adding to it whatever you want!

What You'll Need:
  • 8-1/2" x 11" paper or cardstock
  • crayons, markers, or colored pencils
  • scissors

  • glue or tape, if you want to make it permanent

How You Do It:
  1. Click on each of the files below and print out your still life frame, some household objects you may want to include, and some items from nature. You'll need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader to do this.

  2. Color in your background however you want! You could have nice white walls or crazy polka-dots. And that square on the wall? It could be a window or a picture frame. You decide.

  3. Now color in your stuff. You might want a decorated vase with flowers of your own making. Or how about a bowl of fruit with watermelon in there, too? Look out the window. Is it nighttime or sunny? Snowy or a warm day at the beach? Or is it none of the above, and instead a family portrait from years ago? Again, it's all up to you!

  4. Cut the pieces of your still life out. You can ask an adult for help if you get stuck.

  5. Arrange your things on the still life. If you want to make it permanent, attach them with some glue. If not, keep adding, subtracting, and moving the pieces to your heart's desire. You could even cut out things from catalogs and magazines, if you'd like!
